Bridgman Police are investigating the death of a nursing home resident who died after being assaulted by another resident.

According to Bridgman Police they were called to the West Woods of Bridgman Nursing Home at 8 p.m. on Friday, January 23 to investigate an alleged assault.

When officers arrived, they learned a patient had allegedly been assaulted by another patient.

"When they got there they discovered a victim had been shoved to the floor and he was subsequently transported to the hospital in St. Joseph where he was admitted,” said Chief Daniel Unruh of the Bridgman Police Department.

The victim, 83-year-old Floyd Perham, suffered a head injury.

Perham was taken to Lakeland Hospital for treatment.

Police learned on Monday that Perham died Sunday from head injuries.

"Right now we are investigating a possible homicide and if it can be tracked back to the injuries occurred from the assault,” said Unruh.

No information related to the suspect has been released.

“We've got a lot of interviews to do and working in close conjunction with the prosecutor's office here in Berrien County,” said Unruh.
