Obama to visit West Bank, meet with Palestinians

ISRAEL — President Obama will visit the West Bank on the second day of his trip to the Middle East.

At the West Bank, he will spend part of the day with the Palestinian Authority president.

But winning the trust of the Palestinians who accuse him of unfairly favoring Israel could be a far more difficult task.

"President Obama is trying to mend fences, trying to create an atomsphere with Israel, trying to promise the Israeli people and to talk to them directly that their security is guaranteed," said Hanan Ashrawi, a senior Palestinian official, said.

A big issue will be the many Palestinians who have been jailed by Israel for months or years.

He will also visit a camp for Palestinians youths.
