Off-duty Illinois sheriff's deputy shot and killed

BELLWOOD, Ill. — An off-duty sheriff's deputy was shot and killed while attending a family birthday party in suburban Chicago on Friday night.
Investigators say the 50-year-old Cook County deputy tried to intervene in an armed robbery in the parking lot of a VFW hall in Bellwood.
He was shot in the chest while pulling out his own weapon.
So far, no one has been arrested.
