Officials: no criminal charges being filed in Osceola shooting

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – Officials with the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit say that they are not filing any criminal charges in an incident that happened on Saturday in which a man was shot accidentally during target practice in Osceola and died. 

The victim is 48-year-old Scott Himes who was pronounced dead at the scene. The shooting happened in the 10000 block of McKinley Highway.

During the investigation, several witnesses were interviewed and video evidence was examined.

Upon collecting and processing all the evidence, officials determined that Himes was shot accidentally by a person among the group of people Himes was with.

They were shooting targets at the time of the incident.

The weapon in question is a .22 LR rifle owned by Himes.

In light of this incident, Metro Homicide and law enforcement officials want to respectfully remind the public to follow basic firearms safety rule.
