One dead after a shooting in South Haven

VAN BUREN, Mich. -- The South Haven Police Department reported that officers responded to a call for shots fired at around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday where 41-year-old Shondel Newell, a Covert resident, was identified and pronounced dead at the scene from apparent gunshot injuries.

Police say Newell was located in a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

While investigating, police say witnesses and tip callers of the community shared information that led them to identifying two persons of interest.

Since the investigation started, police say they have located and begun questioning one of the suspects.

The suspected vehicle involved in the shooting has also been located, police say.

Police are asking community members to be on the lookout for the second person of interest who police have identified as Tiah Deshon-Juanita Sutton.

Sutton has been described as a 23-year-old African American woman and is a resident of South Haven.
