One dead after being hit by oncoming car on I-65

FAIR OAKS, Ind. – One person died after being struck by an oncoming vehicle on I-65, according to Indiana State Police.

Officials were originally dispatched to a crash at around 7 p.m. Saturday.

Investigators said that the first crash happened between a 2007 Buick Lucerne and a 2017 Hyundai Sonata.

Authorities say the Buick, driven by Andrew Hardwick, 28, had lost its front driver’s side tire and was sticking out into the left lane.

According to officials the Hyundai, driven by Andrew Tagli, 30, hit the Buick, spun and came to rest facing south in the northbound lanes.

When Tagli got out of his car, he was hit by a 2011 Honda CRV driven by John Riley, 54, according to police.

Tagli was pronounced dead at the scene by Jasper County Coroner.

A passenger in Tagli’s car was airlifted to Christ Advocate Hospital for her injuries.
