One dead in house fire on Ironwood Drive

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - One person died in a house fire on Ironwood Drive Saturday morning, according to the South Bend Fire Department.

Firefighters were called out to the incident around 10 a.m. in the 2500 block of S. Ironwood.

The house was filled with thick, hot smoke, giving zero visibility to responding crews. They eventually discovered the fire started in the basement.

One person was found inside the home. They were pronounced dead in the ambulance.

No firefighters were injured.

Crews are still investigating what caused the fire.
