One dead, one wounded in South Bend shooting

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – A 19-year-old man is dead and 17-year-old man wounded after a shooting that happened at the intersection of Adams Street and Vassar Avenue on Friday night.

According to police, at around 8 p.m. the two victims were sitting on the front porch of their home on the 1100-block of Adams Street when they were approached by four young men described as “juveniles,” for unknown reasons one of the four started shooting.

Both victims were taken to Memorial Hospital with what were initially believed to be non-fatal gunshot wounds.  But, doctors found 19-year-old’s wounds were more severe than initially thought and he later died of his injuries.  The 17-year-old victim, who was shot at least once in the groin area, was flown to Riley Hospital in Indianapolis.

The house where the two men were sitting in front of when they were shot is the same home where 19-year-old Alejandro Tinoco and Jazmin Conlee were fatally shot in January, police said there’s no evidence of a connection between the two incidents.

The St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit is investigating the case; so far no arrests have been made.
