One injured and cited in crash in Elkhart County

ELKHART COUNTY, Ind. -- A 2023 Peterbilt 579 was traveling eastbound on Old US 33 on Wednesday, September 4 at 1:52 when it was waiting to turn left.

A 2005 Ford Ranger that was also traveling on Old US 33 eastbound struck the Peterbilt from behind after the driver of the Ford attempted to swerve out of the way to avoid the crash.

The driver of the Peterbilt, a 57-year-old woman from South Bend, reported no injuries.

The driver of the Ford Ranger, a 63-year-old woman from Elkhart, was transported to the Elkhart General Hospital via EMS for treatment after reporting ankle and knee pain.

The Ford Ranger had to be towed. She was cited for following too closely.

Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
