One person arrested for DUI after car ends up in river

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. – One person was arrested for DUI after his vehicle ended up in the St. Joseph River early Monday morning, the South Bend Police Department reported.

At 3:35 a.m., police responded to reports of a vehicle in the river on the east side of the Century Center in South Bend.

When police arrived, they saw a person climbing up the riverbank toward the Century Center.

Medical personnel arrived and took care of the individual before he was transported to a nearby hospital.

The individual reported being the only person in the vehicle, police said.

Officers tried to find the vehicle in the water but couldn’t because of water conditions.

After further investigation, the individual was arrested for DUI, police said.
