One person dead, multiple injured after three vehicle crash

PERU, Ind. -- A 12-year-old girl died after a multi-vehicle crash on US 24 in Miami County, Indiana Tuesday morning.

According to Indiana State Police, officers responded to a call regarding a three vehicle crash on US 24 and Broadway Street at 8:00 a.m.

The initial investigation conducted by ISP Sergeant Rick Brown revealed that Scott Baker, a 62-year-old man from Eaton, was driving a semi truck eastbound on US 24 when he ran a red light and hit a Ford Explorer which was turning at the intersection.

Officials say the driver of the Explorer, Kristina Buffington, a 31-year-old woman from Peru, then spun into a Chevrolet Cruz driven by 43-year-old Jayson Hall, also from Peru.

According to responding officers, Kristina and Devin Buffington, an 8-year-old passenger, were air lifted to a Ft. Wayne hospital for their injuries. Amanda Buffington was pronounced dead at the scene.

Jayson Hall was also transported to a Peru area hospital before being airlifted to a Ft. Wayne hospital.

This crash is still under investigation, but officials are saying that consumption of alcohol or narcotics do not seem to have contributed to this crash.

Sergeant Rick Brown of ISP stated that "Our crash reconstruction team will analyze the evidence collected and prepare a report for the Miami Count prosecutor's office to review."
