One person injured in two-vehicle crash on U.S 31 Tuesday

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ind. -- One person was injured following a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 31 on Tuesday, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office reported.

At 9 p.m., deputies were called to U.S. 31, south of 13th Road, for a report of a crash with unknown injuries.

The crash involved a Chevy fan and a semi-tractor, which was hauling an empty fuel tanker.

Officials determined that the semi was stopped at a railroad crossing while yielding to possible trains when the van drove into the rear end of the fuel tanker attached to the semi after failing to change lanes, according to responding deputies.

A Samaritan Medical Helicopter was requested for the van's driver, a 60-year-old man from Culver.

The semi driver, a 49-year-old man from Indianapolis, reported no injuries.

The southbound lanes of US-31 were closed while EMS cleared the scene.
