UPDATE: Suspect arrested in relation to shooting at West Sample Street restaurant

UPDATE: On Thursday, May 8, the South Bend Police Department announced 23-year-old Jose Ortiz was identified as a suspect, and was arrested on Wednesday, May 7, for his role in the shooting.
The St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office filed the following charges against Ortiz on May 8:
- Battery by Means of a Deadly Weapon
- Criminal Recklessness
- Possession of Meth
Ortiz is currently being held at the St. Joseph County Jail.
ORIGINAL: SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- On Sunday, May 4, around 1:15 a.m., South Bend Police Department responded to the 3400 block of West Sample St. due to a ShotSpotter notification.
When officers were in enroute to the location, they were advised of a male victim with an apparent gunshot wound at a South Bend restaurant.
The male victim was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
The South Bend Police Department's Violent Crimes Unit is handling the investigation.
