One year old drowns in family pool

THREE RIVERS, Mich. -- Michigan State Police are investigating the drowning of a one year old child at its home in Three Rivers.

Police said an 11-year-old, 2-year-old and 1-year-old were home Thursday afternoon with one of their parents when the two youngest children snuck out of the house.

They were discovered missing and located in the family pool a few minutes later, police said.

The parent has medical training and performed CPR on the 1-year-old child until EMS arrived on scene. The 2-year-old was checked out but wasn't injured.

The 1-year-old was transported to Three Rivers hospital but died at the hospital.

The home is a licensed daycare, but it was closed for the holiday.

Police said there were safety measures in place, but the children circumvented the safety measures.

The family's name has been withheld.
