Open burning damages shed and neighbor's property

Penn Fire responded to a call Saturday afternoon about an open fire that spread from one house to the neighbor's yard.

The call came in at about 2:14 p.m. that the open burning destroyed the shed at 12024 Jefferson Boulevard in Mishawaka.

The fire eventually made its way to the neighbor's fence and house next door.

The damage was estimated at more than $5,000.

Officials say that this is the second fire in less than a week that they have responded to as a result of open burning.

Penn Fire would like to remind everyone to please use extreme caution when burning. However, they advise that you don't burn at all due to the possibility of damaging your property, your neighbor's property, and possibly even yourself.
