Original Borders closes its doors

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Monday marked the end of an era for a national bookstore, as Borders closed its flagship store in Ann Arbor, Mich.

The company was originally founded in Ann Arbor over 40 years ago. Earlier this year, Borders was forced to file for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy.

The original store on East Liberty Street had been open since 1971.

Yesterday's closing was a sad moment, for long-time shoppers. The store did a lot of business Saturday, which cut down most of its remaining inventory.

Employees initially planned to keep the store open, until 10 p.m. on Monday, but high sales caused them to close their doors, in the afternoon instead.
