Out of the Darkness Walk comes to Howard Park
ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is having an Out of the Darkness Walk at Howard Park. It’s a signature fundraiser event and a day of remembrance, hope and support of people impacted by suicide.
The St. Joseph County walk is one of 450 happening across the country and one of 10 happening across the Hoosier state.
Registration opens at nine AM at the park and it’s free. People also have the option to register online. The opening ceremony starts at 10 AM. The 3k walk will go through Howard Park and downtown South Bend. There will be activity stations along with community resources.
For the first time, the walk is unleashing a new memorial. Walkers can bring a new pair of socks that remind them of a loved one impacted by suicide. The socks will be displayed on the walk and then will be donated to the Center for the Homeless in South Bend afterwards.
“It’s a beautiful way to give back and do more but also still honoring our loved ones, our own personal journeys too, which will be fun and we’re excited,” Executive Director for Indiana Chapter of American Foundation for Suicide Prevention said.
Aaron says she wants everyone to come out to support one another.
“This is the one time of year where they have that safe space to truly share and honor their journey or their loved one. It's just a special time, it’s a hope-filled day where we can all come together.”
