Outdoor South Bend film series returns with The Sandlot

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Downtown South Bend Inc.’s outdoor film series returns on June 11 after being put on hold since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The film series will provide free movie screenings on the Gridiron every second Saturday of each month throughout the remainder of the summer.

June’s screening will be of the 1993 baseball film, The Sandlot, around 9:30 p.m., and the event will feature several pre-movie activities, which begin at 7 p.m.

Activities include:

  • The South Bend Chocolate Café will have a concession stand with popcorn, candy, soda and water.
  • The Purdue Polytechnic High School booth will have a throwing game and options to decorate a personal baseball.
  • Sandlot-themed coloring pages will be available.
  • Chances to win free South Bend Cubs tickets and other Cubs giveaways at the Downtown South Bend Inc. Tent.
  • Baseball memorabilia will be on display.
  • Free freezer pops will be available at the Downtown South Bend Inc. Tent.

Free parking will be available on the street and in the nearby Leighton Garage.

Blankets, chairs and snacks are allowed and encouraged to enhance the viewing experience.

The next two screening dates include a playing of Mitchells vs. the Machines on July 9 and Encanto on August 13.
