Overnight lane closures begin on I-94 May 5 as part of larger project
INDOT LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. -- Overnight lane closures are set to begin Tuesday on westbound I-94 between mile-markers 30 and 36 so crews can set up a new traffic configuration.
The Indiana Department of Transportation reports the alternating lane closures will occur nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.
Drivers should be prepared for shifting traffic layouts during this time.
On Wednesday morning, INDOT says the left two lanes of westbound I-94 will be closed for resurfacing. Two travel lanes will be shifted to the right.
The ramps at Exit 34 for US 421 will remain open during work. This configuration is expected to be in place for two weeks.
INDOT says this section of I-94 will maintain two travel lanes in each direction during construction, with lane shifts to accommodate work zone locations.
Further overnight lane closures will be implemented as needed to reconfigure work zone set-ups or for other tasks.
Officials say this work will be done over a two-year period and includes the following projects:
- Asphalt resurfacing on I-94 from 3.09 miles west of U.S. 421 to 0.4 miles east of U.S. 421
- Concrete pavement restoration on I-94 from 0.43 miles east of State Road 49 to 3.09 miles west of U.S. 421
- Bridge painting on C.R. 500 E over I-94
- Bridge painting on County Line Rd (Porter/La Porte) over I-94
- Bridge painting on U.S. 421 over I-94
