Passenger killed in two-vehicle crash in Nappanee

NAPPANEE, Ind. - An 83-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Nappanee Sunday night, according to the Nappanee Police Department.

Police identified the woman as Elizabeth Borkholder.

Just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, Juan Solano Cruz was driving north on Main Street when he drove left of center and hit the southbound vehicle Borkholder was a passenger in, according to police reports.

During the crash, a pedestrian that was on the side of the road was also hit, Nappanee Police said.

Cruz was arrested on a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated resulting in death.

Several people were in the vehicle with Borkholder but their injuries, as well as the pedestrian’s injuries, are not known at this time.
