Pedals & Petals: DTSB rolling into spring with May First Fridays

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- From paths to plants, Downtown South Bend (DTSB) hosted ‘Pedals & Petals’ for May’s First Fridays, bringing out both bikes and blooms from winter hiding.

With ‘petal’ activities like the Plant Swap & Sale and free flower crafts, as well as ‘pedal’ events like a biking parade and valet parking for cyclists, there was something for everyone.

Going along with the biking theme, DTSB previewed Michiana Bike Work Week, one part of a month-long bike challenge hosted by Go574 in partnership with Crossway Trails.

The challenge is in celebration of national bike month, which is May. The initiative can earn you rewards by tracking your bike trips through a point system on the free app, with the top prize an electric bike.

“Besides the health benefits, just breathing clean air, getting some exercise… with the weather changing getting out and enjoying the weather, and then just… carrying that all through the summer. You know, take advantage of the environment that we have here to enjoy,” said a volunteer at South Bend Bike Garage, Dustin New.

The next DTSB First Fridays will be held on June 6 with the theme, ‘Kid’s Night Out’. To download the Go574 app or learn more, click here.
