KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. -- The Warsaw Police Department responded to the intersection of U.S. 30 and Parker Street for a reported crash involving a pedestrian just after midnight on Saturday.

The initial investigation indicates that a 2012 Dodge Journey, operated by McCoy Lucas of Fort Wayne, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 30 when he observed a pedestrian walking in the travel lane. The pedestrian was identified as Hector Hinojosa of Warsaw.

Lucas told officers he tried to avoid the collision with Hinojosa but was unable to. Hinojosa was struck, causing significant injuries. He was later pronounced deceased at a Fort Wayne hospital.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Office Fatal Team was requested for a crash reconstruction and the investigation remains ongoing.
