ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind.-------
Over 200 inches of hair were donated at Penn High School today with the help of 35 donors and a special group of students.
That is a new record for the PHS club, Short Hair Because We Care, which was started by junior Ella Smoker and friends back in middle school, when they decided to donate something other than money, their hair.
The group has grown, Saturday marking the 4th annual event, which encourages anyone in the community to come out for a new hairdo for a great cause.
Donors of all ages came out to make the big chop. All the hair donated will go to make wigs for children suffering from hair loss, through Children With Hair Loss a nonprofit.
The Club partnered with Salon Nouveou, starting the cutting at 8 inches, but some donors giving as much as 20.
Megan Kennedy a Sophomore in the club rocking her new short care, and reflecting on how good it felt to give back,
"it’s a great feeling, I've always had long thick hair, so knowing something that I have taken advantage of is going to help kids is a great feeling," she said.
