ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - The second phase of a bridge replacement project on the U.S. 20/31 bypass begins on or after August 3, Indiana Department of Transportation announced.

Starting Wednesday, the westbound U.S. 20 bridge will be closed to traffic.

The newly constructed bridge on eastbound U.S. 20 will be used for two-way traffic.

Westbound traffic will use the crossovers to cross the median to the eastbound inside lane.

Traffic patterns will change over several days while the new work zone is set up.

Beginning on or after August 5, the ramp from westbound U.S. 20 to southbound U.S. 31 will be closed.

The ramp from northbound U.S. 31 to westbound U.S. 20 will also be closed.

From August 8-20, overnight road closures will be in place on U.S. 31 under the U.S. 20 bridge for bridge demolition.

The closures will be in place from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. on those days.

Traffic will be diverted off of U.S. 31 to either east- or westbound U.S. 20.

Work will continue through early December.
