Phone scam affecting Michiana

The Elkhart Police Department has received information about a scam that is affecting the Michiana area. 

On Monday, it was reported that an attorney calls and indicates a relative of the victim was involved in a crash. 

The attorney promises all charges will be dropped for a price. 

Police say the victim will be instructed by the attorney to go to Best Buy and purchase a large amount of Apple iTunes gift cards.

He will then ask the victim to send him the cards.

It is suspected the scam is targeting the elderly population.  

If you receive a call, police advise to do research, call family and friends, or call the better business bureau before sending any money or prepaid cards to an unknown individual.
