"Pink slime" manufacturer suspending some plant production

The company that makes pink slime is suspending operations at three of its four plants

Beef Products Inc. made the move after several major supermarket chains around the country pulled the "pink slime" product from its shelves, including Kroger.

“Pink slime” also known as "lean finely textured beef," contains ammonium hydroxide which is used in part to kill bacteria.

The meat filler does meet USDA standards, but critics say it's unsafe and less nutritious than fresh ground beef.
