Plymouth Police issue warning about fundraising letter with false information
PLYMOUTH, Ind. -- The Plymouth Police Department issued a warning to residents that a letter asking for donations for a "Plymouth area safety campaign" is not affiliated with their department and they have never received funds or donations from this group.
The letter, from the US Deputy Sheriff's Association, asks for donations to purchase equipment for police agencies around the country.
Plymouth Police posted the letter and reminded residents to do research before donating to any organization.
The department says it does not solicit funds from citizens and it does not have a private organization raise funds on its behalf.
According to CharityNavigator, the US Deputy Sheriff's Association has 0 stars. It says 88-percent of the organization's funds go towards fundraising and only 5-percent of its funds goes towards its mission.
