Pokagon Band hands out boxes of food to families in need

The Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians and its Four Winds Casinos want to make sure folks in Michiana aren't hungry this Thanksgiving.

Volunteers packed, stacked, and handed out 1,000 boxes of food to local families in need Tuesday.

Each box included a turkey, a 3-pound bag of potatoes, stuffing mix, cranberry sauce, and even an apple pie.

Those involved say it's a great feeling to be able to help others this season.

“There’s so many people in need around this time of year and we just hope to bring a little bit of good cheer for those folks in the area,” said Scott Brewer, vice president of government affairs and community relations.

Volunteer Jacey Brewer is happy to help too, “It warms my heart and it's good to do.”

And the effort was a big success. The line was backed up all the way down the street.
