Police arrest suspect in March 2015 shooting
Elkhart Police have arrested a suspect in a shooting that happened on March 12, 2015.
Trevon Triplett, 18, was arrested Tuesday on one count of attempted murder.
Several witnesses told police two men were walking in front of the Family Dollar store when one of the men fired shots at a red vehicle nearby, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The red vehicle backed up and crashed into a Ford SUV, which then hit a Nissan SUV. The red vehicle then drove away from the scene.
The two men ran into a nearby store, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The driver of the red vehicle spoke to investigators and said he knew the man who shot at him as "Trizo" or "Oso." He identified the man in a photo lineup. That person was identified as Triplett, according to the probable cause affidavit.
The man who was walking with Triplett on March 12 told police he witnessed a man he only knows as "Oso" pull out a .380 handgun and fire at a red vehicle, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Triplett spoke with detectives and said he saw the driver of the red vehicle raising a handgun, so he pulled out his own gun and started firing. He told investigators he was just "quicker on the trigger," according to reports.
