Police find possible drowning victim near capsized boat in Berrien County lake

BERRIEN COUNTY, Mich.— Michigan State Police located a deceased male victim near a capsized boat in a Berrien County Lake on May 7, according to reports.

A trooper with the Michigan State Police found an overturned rowboat on Rug Lake off of Gardner Road on May 7 around 2:13 p.m.

After speaking with people in the area, the trooper learned that their relative was recently out fishing in the boat.

The trooper entered the water in a canoe and located an elderly deceased victim, police said.

The victim, an 82-year-old man from Kalamazoo, was not wearing a personal flotation device, reports said.

According to police, it is unknown if the victim suffered a medical episode before falling into the lake.

The incident remains under investigation.
