Police identify body found in burned house

The Berrien County Sheriff's Office has released the identity of the man whose body was found in a charred home on January 20.

Police were waiting until his family had all been notified, but confirmed 72-year-old Leonard Harp died in the fire.

Five different fire departments responded to the fire in the 7200 block of True Rd around 10:30 in the morning.

After first responders found Harp's body inside the charred home, the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal was called in to assist.

Preliminary findings show the fire was likely sparked on accident by a wood burning stove, but the exact origin is still being investigated.
