Police identify double shooting victims
COLOMA TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Coloma Township Police Department released the names of the two people involved in a double shooting on Tuesday.
The man has been identified as 46-year-old Richard Christopher Merchant. The autopsy determined he died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
The woman who was shot was identified as Carey Michelle Burgess-Wagnon of Coloma. She remains in Lakeland Regional Hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg.
Police said the preliminary investigation determined no other parties were involved in the shooting and that the shots were fired inside the home and not from an outside source.
Two handgun, shell casings and bullets were recovered from the home.
The guns were registered to Carey Burgess, according to police.
She and Merchand had been living together in the home for approximately a year, according to police.
The investigation is still ongoing.
