Standoff subject asks police for a pizza, surrenders peacefully

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- A barricaded subject surrendered to South Bend Police following a standoff that lasted a little over 2 hours Tuesday afternoon.

South Bend Police and SWAT responded to the home in the 100 block of Fox Street just after 12:30 p.m.

Police said Zachary Smith threatened to harm himself and his grandmother.

Following negotiations, Smith came out of the house just before 2:45 p.m. and surrendered to police.

Smith asked police for a pizza before he surrendered and while getting into the squad car.

Smith was booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.
