Police increasing school zone enforcement

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — It's back to school for kids in South Bend, Michigan City and Penn Harris Madison. And that means that school zones speeds are back in effect.

Officers will be all over and a lot of them in places you won't be able to see to make sure drivers are obeying the speed limit.

So, if you're going over the 25 miles per hour speed limit, chances are, you'll get a ticket.

The speed zone enforcement effort is set to begin around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. And they're going to be saturating all school zones.

It's just a reminder to drivers that school is in session and to slow down

Aside from the speed enforcement's, police will be patrolling elementary schools in the area.

They say day shift officers will drop by schools several times a week. Just to make sure the kids and teachers are safe.

And officers tell ABC57 that interaction between students and police will be minimal.
