Police investigate shooting after man is rushed to hospital

Elkhart police officers were dispatched to an apartment Tuesday night in regards to a call about a shooting.

The call came in at 7:10 p.m.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of Portage Lane in Elkhart but there was no suspect or victim at the scene.

During the investigation, officers were told that there was a victim at Elkhart General Hospital as a result of that shooting.

The 23-year-old male victim told police he was shot while he was at an apartment where police first responded on Portage Lane.

The victim said he was transported to the hospital by friends after being shot in his abdomen and arm.

Police say the gunshot wounds are non-life threatening and he is still undergoing treatment.

Detectives are continuing their investigation as there is no suspect information at this time.
