Victim identified in fatal crash on State Road 23

UPDATE: The St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office identified the victim as 61-year-old Kathy Moore of Walkerton. 

ORIGINAL STORY: 

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - The St. Joseph County Police Department is investigating a fatal crash on State Road 23 near North Liberty Friday morning.

A call came in reporting the crash just after 7 a.m. near Osborne Road.

According to the investigation, a school bus was picking up students in the westbound lane of S.R. 23 with the stop arm extended. A passenger vehicle in the eastbound lane stopped for the bus but a commercial vehicle behind it did not stop and struck the passenger vehicle from behind. The driver and only occupant of the passenger vehicle died at the scene. 

The driver of the commercial vehicle cooperated with law enforcement. 

S.R. 23 was closed between New and Osborne roads during the investigation.
