SOUTH BEND, Ind. - UPDATE: South Bend Police have identified 23-year-old James Stewart, of South Bend, as the victim of the reported homicide in the area of North Brookfield Street and Fassnacht Avenue.
Upon arrival, officers located Stewart suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Stewart was pronounced dead at the scene. His autopsy is scheduled for Friday in Kalamazoo.
This remains an active investigation.
ORIGINAL STORY: The South Bend Police Department is investigating a reported homicide that happened Thursday morning in the area of North Brookfield Street and Fassnacht Avenue.
Police were called to the area around 8 a.m. for a report of an unresponsive person in a vehicle. That person was pronounced dead at the scene.
The department’s Violent Crimes Unit is investigating. Anyone with information is asked to send an anonymous tip to Michiana Crime Stoppers online or at 574-288-STOP.
