ST. JOSEPH, Mich. - A standoff with a man who allegedly wanted to kill himself ended when he set his house on fire. The man was not injured but was taken to the hospital.
Officers with the St. Joseph Department of Public Safety were called to a home in the 800 block of Wolcott around 7:15 a.m. after a woman called police.
The man wanted to kill himself and poured gasoline throughout the house, reports said.
A negotiator spoke with the man for over an hour. While speaking with officers on FaceTime he set the home on fire, reports said.
After he set the fire, emergency responders and firefighters broke into the home.
The man suffered from smoke inhalation but was otherwise uninjured. He was taken to the hospital, police said.
