Police issue reminder about dangers of celebratory gunfire

The South Bend Police Department is reminding residents not to celebrate the new year with gunfire.

Firing a gun into the air can cause death, injury and/or property damage.

Those who fire their weapons recklessly can be fined $2,500 at any time, not just on holidays.

Police are also issuing a reminder about fireworks. You can be fined up to $500 for possession of illegal fireworks and/or arrested for endangering life or property.
