Police no longer believe Monday's incident was attempted abduction

ELKHART, Ind. -- Elkhart Police are no longer investigating the attempted abduction reported Monday because further investigation found some of the facts were not completely true, according to a press release.

Police said they were called to the 1000 block of W. Garfield around 5 p.m. after a 15-year-old girl reported a suspect grabbed her and forced her into a vehicle. The victim told police she fought with the suspect and got away.

Patrol officers and detectives investigated the incident thoroughly and determined the facts originally reported were not completely true, according to their press release.

They believe the victim was concerned for her safety, but do not believe there was an attempted abduction.

The investigation is no longer active and no charges have been filed.
