Police on the look out for drunk drivers

Bremen, Ind.- Starting today police will step up extra patrols to combat drinking and driving.  In Indiana close to 300 police agencies across the state are participating in the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign.

DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols will be in the mix.  The campaign is federally funded to boost the amount of police on the roadways.  Police are hoping that drivers realize once you had a drink it's better to call a cab or have a friend drive you home.

Sgt. Trent Smith with the Indiana State Police says, "135 people died last year in Indiana because of alcohol related crashes.  All those people could have been saved if drivers didn't get behind the wheel after drinking."

The campaign runs until September 5th.
