Police respond to two armed robberies in Michiana overnight

ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. - Mishawaka and South Bend police officers responded to two armed robberies, less than two miles apart, within two hours.

South Bend Police said two men armed with a gun robbed a man outside of Sam’s Food Market, located on the 1300 block of Lincolnway West, just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Police said after the suspects got the cash, the victim left the scene, but came back with a bat. Officers said the victim bashed out the back windshield of the suspect’s getaway car.

Officers said then, the suspect with a gun fired four shots, and the two jumped in the Mercedes and drove away.

Police were able to catch up with them just down the street, and the two suspects and the woman driving the car were arrested.

About two hours later, around 11 p.m., Mishawaka Police said a woman was making a deposit at the PNC bank located on Grape Road and McKinley Highway when a man armed with a gun demanded her money.

Officers said the man ran to a mid-sized dark vehicle, and took off with an unknown amount of cash.

Mishawaka Police had not made an arrest as of Thursday morning.

No one was hurt in either armed robberies.
