SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The South Bend Police Department has opened a substation in downtown South Bend.
The mayor and interim police chief held a ribbon cutting ceremony on the new substation.
Located on Michigan Street across from the South Bend Chocolate Factory, the station will allow police to stop in and get feedback from the community.
"Many visitors to our city need directions as to where to get around and recommendations as to what they should see. and this gives us the opportunity to interact more with our community," interim Chief of Police Chuck Hurley said.
The city is renting the space from the redevelopment commission.
