St. Joseph County police say a woman was killed in an overnight crash near the intersection of State Road 23 and 30th Street.
Lt. William Redman says it happened just before 1 A.M. Friday.
He says the woman's vehicle crashed into a utility pole.
Redman says the woman was the only person in the car and she died at the scene.
He says they do not yet know the woman's name.
According to Redman, early indications are that speed was a factor. Investigators are ruling any factors out.
The investigation is being handled by SJC police, Clay Fire and the coroner's office.
The crash damaged a utility pole. AEP crews are working to repair the pole. They say they are unaware of any outages.
SR 23 was closed for several hours, but it reopened around 4:30 a.m.
