MISHAWAKA, Ind. – The Prized Pig is reopening for carryout orders despite initially closing down in March when all restaurant dining rooms were ordered to shut down. However, they won’t be available any day; customers will have to wait for what the store owners are calling a “pop-up” event.
The menu from The Prized Pig is a bit different from a typical restaurant in that they cook large amounts of meat at once.
To help keep food waste down during this difficult time, the owners have decided to only sell food during pre-announced times; a “pop-up” event.
“Barbecue is really tough because we have to cook so much meat ahead of time and you gotta just hope that people show up so when you cook a bunch of meat and people don’t show up, a lot goes to waste. So trying to do that on a full time basis was really difficult,” said Jeremy Vohwinkle, owner of The Prized Pig.
Until restaurants are allowed to reopen normally, The Prized Pig will be using these “pop-ups” to keep business going.
The Prized Pig is hoping to host another “pop-up” during the April 4th weekend, where beef brisket will be served.
