SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Portage Township is set to host an 'Eviction Sealing Clinic' on July 15 from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m., at 340 Columbia Street in South Bend.

Residents who attend will be able to meet with lawyers from the Volunteer Lawyer Network, who will be there to assist with the process of sealing eviction records.

“Receiving an eviction many years in the past should not carry a life sentence of being excluded from affordable housing options. When you don’t have options, you are vulnerable to be preyed upon by less than reputable landlords and other nefarious characters. I am excited we have an option to help residents escape this fate," stated Trustee Jason Critchlow.

Portage Township, additionally partnering with Notre Dame Law School and the Volunteer Lawyer Network, is also providing free assistance from the Township for this service.

"This an example of how government is supposed to work. A problem is identified, people work together to propose a solution, that solution is debated and approved by lawmakers, and local governments like ours create partnerships to execute the solution," Critchlow finishes.
