Portage Township Trustee's Coats for Kids program offers winter gear for kids

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Portage Township Trustee's Coats for Kids program will provide outdoor winter items to families with kids under 18 in need of support.

Taking place on October 22 at 3:00 p.m., qualifying applicants will meet Trustee Jason Critchlow at Meijer on Portage Rd. to shop for new coats and cozy winter accessories.

For Critchlow, Coats for Kids is about child safety.

"Whether we like it or not, winter is coming, and we need to be doing more to ensure our families are prepared," he said. "We can't have our kids waiting at bus stops without adequate protection from the elements.

Funds are limited; therefore, applications are limited.

If interested, applicants must apply by October 15 at the office at Portage Township Trustee.
