Pre-work begins on section of US 20 Wednesday for auxiliary lane project

Indiana Department of Transportation

LA PORTE COUNTY, Ind. - The Indiana Department of Transportation announced its contractor will conduct lane closures on US 20 between I-94 and C.R. 400 W. starting Wednesday.

INDOT officials say the right outside westbound lane will close for about two days on or after Wednesday.

That work will be followed by the right outside eastbound lane for about two days on or after June 9.

Officials say there will be no left turns permitted within the area of the closed lane.

The closures are due to utility work ahead of long-term construction in this location.

INDOT says the project consists of road reconstruction with added center turn lanes and shoulders on US 20, including between S.R. 39 and Fail Rd, between US 35 and C.R. 400 W., and between C.R. 250 E. and Oak Knoll Road.

Officials say work will be ongoing with alternating lane closures in these areas through late November.

Motorists should be alert for changing traffic patterns.

Motorists are asked to allow extra time when driving through this area and follow traffic directions carefully.

Motorists are also asked to slow down, exercise caution, and drive distraction-free through all work zones.
