President Obama releases statement on Wasserman Schultz's resignation

President Obama released a grateful statement on Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s resignation Sunday afternoon. 

The president says, “For the last eight years, Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has had my back.” 

Obama says he called her to let her know how thankful he was for her leadership of the DNC.

The president adds that Wasserman Schultz was someone who “brought Democrats together for accomplishing the shared goals we have had for our country.”

In his statement, Obama points out Wasserman’s critical roles in supporting the economic recovery, fights for social and civil justice, and the providing of healthcare for all Americans. 

He adds, “Her fundraising and organizing skills were matched only by her passion, her commitment, and her warmth.  And no one works harder for her constituents in Congress than Debbie Wasserman Schultz.”

The president closed his statement noting, “Michelle and I are grateful for her efforts, we know she will continue to serve our country as a member of Congress from Florida and she will always be our dear friend.”
