The Elkhart economy has seen quite the turnaround from the great recession. Once considered ground zero with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, the economy is now booming.
The RV industry shipped a record number of units last year.
And the 2-percent unemployment rate is now one of the best in the country
We spoke with the head of the Economic Development Corporation of Elkhart County, Mark Dobson about the president’s visit.
He says it just shows the resilience of the area.
"It's an honor to have a sitting US President come to your community. That's an honor for the community. I don't care what your political affiliation is - Democrat or Republican, Independent, dog, cat, whatever," Dobson said. "I think it really positively reflects on Elkhart that things that are happening here .Things are happening here that aren't happening anywhere else in the nation and it's exciting."
